My Elevator Pitch: Michael Short

My Elevator Pitch is a series of blog posts that asks the Amadeus UK Management Team “What Makes Amadeus Different”? Today’s post comes from Michael Short, Director of Customer Experience UK & IE.

Global Distribution Systems or GDSs are the backbone of the industry – but they’re not exactly the most exciting topic of conversation at a cocktail party. Recently, I was asked to write an elevator pitch to highlight what I believe is the value Amadeus offers. So here are my thoughts.

I work for Amadeus, one of three global GDS operating in the travel industry today. They’re all the same right?

I don’t want to get into an argument over semantics, but the dictionary definition of “same” is identical, or exactly alike. By that measure, how ‘sameish’ is Amadeus when you consider the following 3 points?

1. We’ve invested more than €2.5 billion in the past 5 years in Research & Development into new travel technology.

This enables Amadeus to build on its vision to create the ultimate traveller experience and work with the industry to create a new travel ecosystem. Easy to say of course, but challenging to deliver. It means extending and shaping how all of us – business and leisure travellers – interact with technology to streamline and simplify the journey from A to Z (or from couch to couch as I like to say).

This investment also allows Amadeus to play a key role in delivering genuine business transformation to customers large and small, corporate or leisure, online and offline. The bottom line is: Amadeus is uniquely equipped to enable success.

If by the same, you mean all GDSs offer the same content, think again.

2. We have great content, more than any other provider in our industry. But the story doesn’t end there…

I don’t know about you, but I think the conversation around the ever-expanding possibilities in travel just got a whole lot more interesting.
